Dr Hedieh Jazaeri

Research Fellow

Hedieh completed her PhD on recrystallization of highly deformed aluminium alloys at the University of Manchester in 2003. Subsequently she worked as a PDRA for two years at the University of Manchester where she studied the effect of initial grain size on microstructural development during cold rolling deformation of a single-phase aluminium alloy and also the dynamic grain growth in a single-phase aluminium alloy after deformation by plane strain compression at low temperature and different strain rates.

In 2005 she joined Oxford Instruments Analytical plc (Nanoanalysis sector) as an application specialist before returning to academia at The Open University in 2010. She was initially appointed as a research associate and later in 2012 as a research fellow in the Materials Engineering Group. Her research focuses on the creep damage assessment in order to extend life of engineering components in safety-critical applications.

Hedieh’s research interests include employing various microstructural analysis techniques at the Open University such as Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and optical microscopy and Electron Backscattered Diffraction (EBSD) to quantify creep damage in materials operating at high temperatures. As well as microstructural characterisation techniques, Hedieh uses Small Angle Neutron Scattering (SANS) technique such as ISIS in Oxfordshire and the ILL in Grenoble,  to find a better understanding of creep damage formation and development during life of engineering components.
