Alec Goodyear


My research interests lie in surface engineering and analysis techniques for materials and surfaces. Particular areas of focus are in technological plasmas and positron analysis techniques. Current interests include novel diagnostics for plasmas and modification of plasma properties for enhanced surface engineering. Applications include semiconductor device development, nanofabrication, surface coatings, electrical engineering, and biocompatible films.

The development of novel positron beam techniques for the investigation of defects in materials is also an area of expertise. Previous work has included the design and construction of one of the first positron microscopes. I currently contribute to the Engineering Programme teaching curriculum in distance education and residential school provision, with interests and responsibilities in the subjects of electronic materials, micro and nano technologies and surface engineering. I work in several areas of responsibility with the Institute of Physics and I'm currently Honorary Secretary of the Applied Physics and Technology Division.
