Steve's primary area of  interest is the field of 'social informatics' - the relationships between people and digital technologies.  He has particular interests in the use of ICT in civil society, community informatics, and in learning technologies.

Current projects


- IBZL - 'Infinite Bandwidth, Zero Latency' - a project exploring potential novel applications of 'next generation' broadband networks with CandS colleagues Simon Bell, Clem Herman and Wendy Fisher, and Manchester Digital.

Recent projects

have included:

- EGOV4U - member of the OU team responsible for the Impact Evaluation activities in this large scale European e-government project led by Milton Keynes Council.

- Co-investigator, Practical Design for Social Action (PRADSA) project, supported under the AHRC/EPSRC Design for the 21st Century programme

- Project evaluator, Trade Unions Anticipating Change in Europe, led by the European Trade Union Institute.

Steve was a member of the production team and wrote material for T848: Managing Technological Innovation.

He is currently a member of the T848 presentation team, and the presentation team for T802: Research Project.  

He was module chair of Networked living: exploring information and communication technologies course (T175).
